Andrew here.
So Stan, Aimee, Jared and I (accompanied by Herva) toured around Haiti today. We left at 8am and drove the american team to the airport. We next drove to the Dominican Border to pick up Ruth, (a lady who works with MP there) and then drove back to Port au Prince to pick up her sister. We then went to the Hatian version of Home Depot to buy some supplies and that was a most interesting experience. 5 english speaking Canadians assisted by 9 creole speaking Hatians and much confusion later we ended up at the checkout an hour later with everything we needed. As the teller totaled eveything up it was just shy of $1500. Herva had only brought $1000 with and we pooled together another $250 for a total of $1250 and then started And passing rules don't exist. If your vehicle is bigger and has a louder horn you win. If you have a small vehicle with no horn, don't even leave the driveway 'cause you'll die within the fist 300 feet. The people transport is unreal. Our 47 passenger MCI bus would easily seat 200 people comfortably. We say many small toyota 1/4ton trucks carrying 20 people easily and 4 on a 80cc scooter is not uncommon. We saw a school bus that should seat 30 and I am sure it had 100 people in it, not to mention the 12 goats 30 chickens and 20 people on top of it and another 10 people standing on the bumpers! You really have to see it to believe it - it's hard to explain. We saw a ford ranger to fender to fender with a school bus and ya, didn't work so well, bus took sharp left, truck to close to intersection, truck now missing most of side. Anyone stop? nope, just keep going.
On that note I am going to bed to rest my weary back - 400km in the back of a 1 ton truck driving over very rough roads is tiring.
ttyl - keep prayin
will keep praying for all of you. Andrew, you haven't found a massage therapist in your group yet? Feel bad for your back.

Hope you feel better soon, Drew, so you can enjoy the work. Did you get the $250 off?? (think a few words got missed there.) You are in our thoughts and prayers. May you all be blessed as you are a blessing. Hey, yesterday we were warmer here than Dallas, Texas, and in February. How's them apples!
ReplyDeleteInteresting post, Andrew. Hope you had a good, restful sleep after that nightmare.
ReplyDeleteYou say, you really have to see it to believe it - it's hard to explain. They say, a picture it worth a thousand words. So make sure you get a picture or two, so we can all believe it.
Take care, and may the good Lord see you thru it all. TKa'e
